Sixty-eight-year-old Bee Kia, who was a former weightlifter with the Singapore National Team, believes in keeping fit and watching his diet. “I want to continue having an active lifestyle – especially with the arrival of my first grandchild Sybylle, as I babysit on weekends.” He does at least three sets of 100 repetition push-ups and three sets of 30 repetition parallel bar dips followed by a 2km brisk-walk, six days a week. He also makes it a point to have at least two servings of vegetables to go with his bowl of rice, avoids deep-fried food and eats at home for dinner.

The father of one, who is part of Team Strong Silvers where he promotes exercise to seniors, shared: “Seniors should focus on exercises that will help them maintain their physical strength and therefore, independence. And it is important that they pay attention to what they eat.” In his heyday, he used to be a cigarette salesman, but he never smoked a stick.
