Seventy-three-year-old Bob may be a resident at the AWWA Community Home for Senior Citizens in Ang Mo Kio, but he doesn’t stay indoors all the time even  though he has weak knees. Thanks to his trusty scooter, which he affectionately calls his Mercedes, he continues to stay active and can travel away from home daily. He shared that each day he either participates in the Home’s activities or he goes out with friends and once, had braised duck in Boon Keng. He keeps life simple just like when he was younger.

He was an indent salesman long time ago, selling all kinds of things like refrigerator parts, plastic resin and machinery. He worked hard during the day and at night, he played hard in his own way. “I would go to the pubs and nightclubs, and play billiards, bowling and mahjong.” And after a game, he would go eat Cher Char. He knows he is coming up with age. “My journey will soon end, everybody has to go. ... I think I should be gone in five to 10 years,” said the professed “bachelor boy”, and he is fine with it. “If I had to go tonight, don’t worry, it is okay.” He added, “I have no regrets, I have had a good life.” Even with 10 cents in his pocket, he shared, “I am still happy”. However, if he could turn back the clock, he shared this: “I would save more money, buy a house and get a wife.”
