Yoo Ai, 90 year old Marathoner
Ng Yoo Ai was born in 1946 and worked as a bus driver for decades. He has 4 children and 7 grandchildren; all of which are runners. How did this come about?
He started running at the age of 12 and developed the passion for running since then, and has also participated in many marathons throughout the years. He emphasizes the importance of running and how running has shaped him and his family throughout his life course. ‘Running allows me to be free mentally, emotionally and socially. It is certainly more than just a physical activity. ‘
Till today, Ng Yoo Ai wakes up at 5.30am every morning to jog at the Ang Mo Kio- Bishan Park. And every year, he will participate in the Standard Chartered Marathon race with his sons and grandchildren. Despite the deteriorating condition of his physical body due to age, he does not see it as an ‘excuse’ to stop running.
“It is about the will power and truly enjoying what you do.”
